CORFU, GREECE · THE LOCAL EDIT
Kassiopi, Corfu: The Local’s Guide to the Island’s North-East Coast
Where to swim, stay, eat and linger — according to two sisters whose family has called Kassiopi home for more than 35 years.
A LOCAL GUIDE WITH ERI & MARIANNA OF PEARL JEWELLERY BOUTIQUE
WHY KASSIOPI?
Corfu, just a little more intimate.
Corfu is one of Greece’s great summer islands — famous, beautiful and large enough that choosing where to stay can completely change the holiday.
Up on the north-east coast, Kassiopi offers a smaller way into it. There is a harbour at the centre of village life, little coves for morning swims, boats heading out along the coastline and evenings that can be done almost entirely on foot.
It is not hidden, and it certainly is not sleepy. But compared with experiencing Corfu as one sprawling destination, Kassiopi feels wonderfully self-contained: villas in the hills, clear Ionian water, long lunches by the sea and just enough going on after sunset.
Come for Corfu. Stay because Kassiopi begins to feel like your own little corner of it.
MEET YOUR LOCALS
Two sisters, one very local address book.
If you want to know Kassiopi properly, ask someone who has spent rather more than a summer here.
Sisters Eri and Marianna are the second generation behind Pearl Jewellery Boutique, a family business that began in Kassiopi in 1989 when their parents, Marietta and Kostas, opened their first jewellery shop beside the Ionian Sea.
More than 35 years later, the family now has two boutiques in the village, and the sisters know this corner of Corfu exactly as you would hope locals do: where to swim before everyone arrives, where lunch should turn into dinner, and which table deserves a reservation.
So we asked them where they actually send their friends.
GETTING THERE
First, get to Corfu. Then head north.
Kassiopi sits on Corfu’s north-east coast, around 36 kilometres from Corfu Town. Getting there is straightforward. Making an entrance, however, is optional.
Fly
Fly into Corfu International Airport (CFU), with direct summer connections from the UK and across Europe, or connect via Athens.
Sail
Ferries connect Corfu with Igoumenitsa throughout the year, with additional seasonal connections from Italy.
Head North
From Corfu Town or the airport, continue to Kassiopi by car, taxi, private transfer or local bus.
THE BETTER ARRIVAL
Come by boat.
For something rather more memorable, arrange a private boat transfer and follow Corfu’s coastline north towards Kassiopi. Blue water, green hills and small bays replace the road — and the holiday begins well before you reach the harbour.
Particularly good for couples, celebrations — or anyone who believes the first hour of a Greek holiday should not be entirely practical.
WHERE TO STAY
Check in. Then forget the car.
Stay close to the village and Kassiopi becomes wonderfully easy: morning swims, harbour lunches and late dinners can all happen on foot. These are Eri and Marianna’s local picks.
01
Melina’s Bay
Right by the harbour and particularly lovely for couples. Stay here when the plan is to wake up, step outside and already be exactly where you want to be.
HARBOUR · COUPLES · WALKABLE
02
Kassiopi Bay Hotel
A strong choice for its position and views, with Kassiopi close at hand and the Ionian landscape doing most of the decorating.
SEA VIEWS · LOCATION · RELAXED
03
Manessis Apartments
For a little more independence, with views towards the harbour and Kassiopi’s Byzantine-era castle. An apartment stay with a very Corfiot backdrop.
APARTMENT · HARBOUR · CASTLE VIEWS
04
Kassiopi Luxury Suites
The more polished, contemporary option of the four. Choose it when you want Kassiopi charm outside and something decidedly modern waiting when you return.
MODERN · POLISHED · SUITESTHE OTHER KASSIOPI WAY
Or take the villa.
The north-east of Corfu is villa country. Around Kassiopi, private houses climb into the green hills above the water, often with pools, terraces and enough privacy to make leaving for dinner feel like quite the decision.
For families, groups or longer stays, this may be the most quintessential way to do this side of Corfu.
WHERE TO SWIM
Clear water. Very little agenda.
One of Kassiopi’s greatest luxuries is how quickly the village gives way to small pebble coves and startlingly clear Ionian water. You do not need to plan an expedition. Take your towel and start walking.
01
Kanoni Beach
Rocky edges, intensely blue water and that unmistakable north-east Corfu scenery. Come in the morning when the day still feels entirely yours.
MORNING SWIM · CLEAR WATER · KASSIOPI02
Pipitos for another dip.
A small pebble cove close to Kassiopi, framed by greenery and clear water. Exactly the sort of place that turns “one quick swim” into most of the afternoon.
KEEP SWIMMING
Bataria
A tiny Kassiopi favourite for impossibly clear water.
Kalamionas
The easy option when you want a beach close to village life.
Avlaki
Head slightly further out for a longer, quieter stretch of coast.
WHERE TO EAT
Lunch should be long. Dinner even longer.
In Kassiopi, the best tables tend to come with sea air, harbour views and very little reason to leave. These are Eri and Marianna’s addresses for everything from sunset dinners to the souvlaki you will inevitably crave.
01 · FOR SUNSET
Trilogia Plous
This is the table to time around sunset. Perched above the water, Trilogia pairs dinner with one of those Ionian views that makes checking the time feel slightly beside the point.
Local move: arrive before sunset and let dinner begin while the light is still changing.
02 · FOR THE LONG LUNCH
Cavo Barbaro, Avlaki
Down by Avlaki Beach, Cavo Barbaro is made for the kind of lunch where nobody has somewhere else to be. Sea beside the table, Greek flavours, a breeze coming off the water — and perhaps another bottle before anyone discusses leaving.
THREE MORE TABLES
Depending on the mood.
Cassiopeia Restaurant
FOR GREEK BY THE HARBOUR
Traditional Greek flavours with one of Kassiopi’s most recognisable views: the boats, the harbour and village life unfolding around you.
Katoi Bistrot
FOR A SLOW EVENING
Shaded by trees and looking towards the harbour, Katoi is the sort of relaxed corner where dinner should never be hurried.
Thraka Grill House
FOR THE SOUVLAKI
Because eventually every Greek holiday requires one. Casual, straightforward and exactly right after a day in the sea.
AFTER DARK
Stay for one more.
Kassiopi does not need a complicated nightlife plan. Dinner runs late, the harbour lights come on and somehow everyone ends up back by the water.
Illusions Kitchen Bar
COCKTAILS · FOOD · HARBOUR VIEWS
An all-day address that becomes particularly good once the sun disappears. Order cocktails, find a table overlooking the harbour and see where the evening goes.
Limani Bar
HARBOUR-SIDE · DRINKS · LATE EVENINGS
Right on the harbour, Limani works for an afternoon stop but makes even more sense after dinner, when the boats are illuminated and Kassiopi settles into its evening rhythm.
Swim late. Shower quickly. Dinner at sunset.
The rest can sort itself out.
IF YOU ONLY HAVE 24 HOURS
A very good day in Kassiopi.
No military scheduling required. This is simply how Eri and Marianna would spend a summer day here: start by the harbour, stay close to the water and leave plenty of room for lunch to run late.
START SLOWLY
Morning by the harbour
Coffee first. Walk around Kassiopi while the harbour is still quiet, the boats are heading out and the day has not quite decided what it is going to become.
GET IN THE WATER
Swim at Kanoni or Pipitos
Take a towel and head for one of the little coves around the village. Morning is particularly good for clear water, fewer people and absolutely no reason to rush back.
THE LONG LUNCH
Order another plate
Head towards Avlaki for lunch at Cavo Barbaro, or stay around the harbour for Greek food with a view. This is not the part of the day to make subsequent appointments.
NOTHING URGENT
Boat, second swim or siesta
Rent a boat and explore more of the north-east coast, return to the water, or retreat somewhere shady until the heat begins to soften. All three are acceptable.
SUNSET, OBVIOUSLY
Dinner before the light disappears
Book Trilogia around sunset and arrive while there is still enough daylight to watch the colours change over the Ionian.
ONE MORE
Back to the harbour
Finish with cocktails at Illusions or Limani and a walk beside the illuminated boats. Tomorrow can look remarkably similar.
The unofficial Kassiopi rule: leave enough time for nothing in particular.
THE SOUVENIR WE ACTUALLY WANT
A little piece of Corfu, kept properly.
Not every holiday souvenir needs to be a postcard. In Kassiopi, one of the loveliest ways to take something home is to choose a piece that will keep the place with you a little longer.
Pearl Jewellery Boutique has been part of Kassiopi since 1989, when Marietta and Kostas first opened their shop in the village, guided by a shared love of jewellery, craftsmanship and beautiful things made to be kept.
More than 35 years later, that story continues with the second generation. Sisters Eri and Marianna now lead the family business, carrying forward the same warmth and sense of personal care while bringing their own contemporary eye to the boutique.
Today, Pearl is woven into the life of Kassiopi itself — the kind of place visitors return to summer after summer, sometimes for a gift, sometimes for themselves, and often for the simple pleasure of taking home something that will always remind them exactly where they found it.
Wear the memory. Keep the sparkle.
ERI & MARIANNA’S LOCAL NOTES
The things you only know when you know.
A few final notes from two sisters who have spent rather more than one summer figuring out how Kassiopi is best enjoyed.
FOR THE MORNING
Swim early.
Head towards Kanoni, Pipitos or one of the small coves around the village before the day gets properly underway.
FOR LUNCH
Do not rush it.
A table beside the water is not meant to be efficient. Leave the afternoon deliberately vague and let lunch decide when it is finished.
FOR SUNSET
Book the table.
If dinner comes with a sunset view, arrive while there is still daylight. Trilogia is one worth planning ahead for.
FOR EXPLORING
See it from the water.
Rent a boat or arrange a private transfer and explore the north-east coastline from the Ionian. Kassiopi makes considerably more sense once you have seen it from the sea.
FOR YOUR STAY
Keep it walkable.
Stay close to the village if you can. Being able to walk between the harbour, restaurants and nearby beaches is part of Kassiopi’s charm.
FOR THE EVENING
End at the harbour.
Dinner, a cocktail, illuminated boats and one last walk by the water. There is very little need to make the evening more complicated.
THE LOCAL RULE
Make a few reservations. Leave everything else open.
KASSIOPI, ANSWERED
Before you book the flight.
The practical things worth knowing before planning a stay in this north-east corner of Corfu.
Is Kassiopi worth visiting? +
Yes. Kassiopi is one of the best places to experience Corfu on a smaller, more intimate scale. It combines a picturesque harbour, clear-water coves, restaurants, bars and easy access to the north-east coastline without feeling like a large resort.
Is Kassiopi a good place to stay in Corfu? +
Kassiopi is an excellent base if you want beaches, restaurants and evening life within walking distance. It is particularly appealing for couples, families and travellers who prefer boutique hotels, apartments or private villas to large resort complexes.
How do you get from Corfu Airport to Kassiopi? +
From Corfu International Airport you can reach Kassiopi by hire car, taxi, private transfer or bus. The journey usually takes around an hour by road, depending on traffic. A private boat transfer is also possible for a more memorable arrival along Corfu’s coastline.
Do you need a car in Kassiopi? +
Not necessarily. If you stay in or close to Kassiopi village, the harbour, restaurants, shops and several beaches can be reached on foot. A car is useful if you want to explore more of Corfu or visit beaches and villages further along the coast.
What are the best beaches near Kassiopi? +
Kanoni, Pipitos and Bataria are among the small clear-water beaches close to Kassiopi village. Kalamionas is another convenient option, while Avlaki is worth heading slightly further out for a longer, quieter stretch of coastline.
Is Kassiopi quiet or lively? +
It sits rather nicely between the two. Days can be spent swimming, boating and having long lunches, while the harbour becomes livelier in the evening with restaurants and cocktail bars. It has atmosphere without requiring a full resort-style nightlife scene.
How many days do you need in Kassiopi? +
Three or four days is enough for swimming, a boat day, long lunches and evenings around the harbour. For a slower holiday or a villa stay, Kassiopi also works very well for a full week.
Is Kassiopi good for couples? +
Very. Harbour-side dinners, small coves, sunset restaurants, private boat trips and boutique accommodation make Kassiopi one of the most appealing areas of Corfu for a relaxed couples’ trip.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE
Perhaps that is Kassiopi’s real luxury.
You do not need very much once you arrive. A place to swim. A table by the water. Somewhere to watch the boats come home. And enough time to do it all again tomorrow.
